Pyruvate, a natural by-product of metabolism, is also found in certain foods, primarily fruits and vegetables. In the human body pyruvate is generated when glucose (a six-carbon molecule) yields two molecules of pyruvate (a three-carbon molecule), or more specifically, pyruvic acid. Two potential mechanisms by which pyruvate enhances both fat and weight loss are through increasing metabolism and fat utilization. Although animal studies have shown that pyruvate increases resting metabolic rate and fat utilization (as determined by a decrease in respiratory quotient), increased metabolic rate hasn't been found in humans. Still, preliminary data indicate that pyruvate may increase fat utilization in humans. Now, after 25 years of research, pyruvate is available as a dietary supplement with some unique properties. Recent clinical studies have found that pyruvate produces a remarkable physiological and metabolic change in those who take it. Some of these remarkable results from the use of this product are:
Pyruvate for Weight Loss
Pyruvate for Endurance
Pyruvate will give you "natural energy" without artificial stimulants. Clinical tests have shown increased muscular endurance in both the arms and legs by 20%. Olympic gold-medal gymnast Shannon Miller used pyruvate to help energize her before the 1996 Olympics. Pyruvate has been shown to increase the resting metabolic rate and fat utilization.
What about side effects? (this is the good part)
Dr. Stanko sums up 25 years of research into pyruvate by saying, "I'm convinced that pyruvate is not only effective but also has no serious side effects."
Why Calcium Pyruvate?
According to Dr. Carl Coppolino, there are disadvantages to creating forms of pyruvate other than calcium pyruvate. Remember, each molecule of pyruvate must contain a certain percentage of a stabilizing counterpart. Let's see how that works out with other pyruvate combinations: Magnesium pyruvate: excessive magnesium supplementation can cause digestive disturbances--diarrhea in particular and may increase the risk of hip fractures. Potassium pyruvate: excess supplementation of potassium is dangerous for the elderly and for patients suffering from renal impairment. Also at risk are those taking certain prescription drugs. Arginine pyruvate: In large doses, arginine can cause bone disorders, and can produce nausea and vomiting. Sodium pyruvate: excess intake of sodium has been associated with the development of hypertension, and considered the major culprit in causing many of the health problems of modern civilization such as strokes and other cardiovascular diseases. Sodium pyruvate products often contain diuretics in an attempt to counteract the sodium.
